I would like to put forth the following argument: kids these days are missing the greatest part of childhood, the last 2 weeks of August (and the entire first week of September this year). Remember the good ole days when school began Tuesday after Labor Day Monday......
Summer was a time to run wild and free, ended by a holiday wrapped in patriotism, hotdogs, potato chips, & pecan pie served with lemon aid and maybe one of dad's cold beers if mom wasn't on her game.
The school band cursing the cowboys that always seemed to get placed up front in the Labor Day parade...... Of course the cowboys were busy contending with a herd of young kids on mini-bikes, and go-karts...... Hmm, I have to wonder if whoever was in charge of the parade enjoyed a little drama........because someone was either stepping in poop or getting ran over by a horse gone rouge.......
A couple of major snow storms..... that have yet to be repeated in more than 40 years moved the beginning of the school year from September to mid August.....stealing away forever the best days of summer vacation.
So.....let me put forth a thought or two for you to ponder and argue about. These days when snow hits, we pull out the Chrome books and have a virtual school day..... Has the time finally come to move the beginning of the school year back to September and give summer back to childhood........ What say you?
