Story time: .......who was your worst teacher? Afraid to say...... Don't want to be that person...... Was the teacher really bad, or did you just not gel? Was it the teacher or was it you?
Our family has permitted us to learn a whole lot about teachers. We have twins and triplets, and during the elementary school years most schools try to keep siblings in separate classrooms translation we have often experienced every teacher a school has at each grade level.
I remember when our twin boys started kindergarten, Dillon had Miss Rutledge and Logan was in Miss Politte's class. One of their older cousins had been in Rutledge's class and they told us how lucky Dillon was to have such a good teacher. We were excited for school to begin, but quickly realized that Miss Politte was 10X the teacher Dillon had........
Miss Rutledge had really impressed the family, but we had the advantage of seeing both of the teachers....and Miss Politte was clearly the better teacher.
When our triplets became school age, the sampling of teachers grew even more. Most of the their teachers were really good, but Brody had a first grade teacher that sucked. Hmmm, you know I didn't say that right.... let me try again, Brody's first grade teacher FUCKING sucked, yeah,...that sounds better. I don't think we would have known, if it wasn't for the fact we had other teachers to do a comparison, but we did and she sucked.
Life never changes, remember college...... if you were connected in college you got the low down, athletes are told certain teachers to avoid and students in general talk about certain PhD's they like or hate......
Did you ever have a bad teacher? Did you ever have Miss Slinkard? Wreath Slinkard was a teacher that taught in Southeast Missouri during the 1930's through the 1970's She may be one of the worst teachers of all time.
Wreath taught in public schools for 39 years, .......in 38 different schools. LOL, OMG, one school brought her back for a second year...... She was Aunt Wreath to me, but even the family knew she was a bitch. One school fired her for using a hammer and tacks to keep a young kid in his chair. Yes, you read that correctly, she nailed the boys pants to his chair. (If memory holds true that took place in the Zalma, Missouri school district)
I had a bad teacher or two..... I remember a substitute teacher from high school that suffered from a drinking problem and narcolepsy...... hell of a combination. He most often taught shop class, he parked his truck right beside the shop, cooler full of beer in the back of the truck.... and he often feel asleep in class. Believe it or not, the school never seemed to have an issue..... of course we had a bus driver in the 1970's that drove drunk most days......
We had a history teacher that discovered a local girl was hired the same year he was, had the same education.....but was paid a few thousand dollars more. He stopped teaching and we played Trivial Pursuit every day in class..... Was he a bad teacher.....actually he was a great teacher until he discovered life isn't fair and he said screw you all....... Life isn't fair, I was offered a contract coaching, the school hid money in contracts. Let me explain, it was a closed campus, you could not leave for lunch, so you had to eat lunch at the school. Coaches were offered an extra $5000 to eat lunch..... I am quite sure the other teachers would have crapped down both legs if they knew that...... yeah, life isn't fair.
Teachers are no different from any other field, some are good, some are bad, others change day to day, class to class, experience to experience. The SEMO Law Enforcement Academy was recently rocked with a scandal in which.....well something took place that was not exactly above board, but the truth is that happens in schools all over the country every year. Some people are not ethical..... some have a chip on their shoulder, like Mr. Trivial Pursuit..... some just don't care. Many burn out and a few probably lack the ability, but need to get a paycheck.
My buddy Randy, swore up and down he was on the verge of sleeping with one of our teachers. This was 40+ years ago, before that stuff was common practice, he was a good looking kid, so who knows......
