How smart are you....

Story time: ........how smart are you? Smart and education do not always go hand in hand. A person can be incredibly smart, and not be educated. There are also plenty of examples of the other side of the coin, my parents called this second type Educated Idiots, they might be very educated, some have multiple degrees and yet they are dumber than a rock.

I bet this very second you are thinking about Educated Idiots you know......and if you are not, chances are you are the Educated Idiot in your circle of friends......

Chances are you are thinking or taking into consideration the importance of Common Sense. I truly believe you cannot be truly smart if you lack common sense, or maybe the words I am look to say are "Street Smarts."

I believe kids that completed the 8th grade in 1935 were smarter than most high school graduates today. Of course the 1935 grads knew nothing about computer or modern day technology, but their world knowledge was light years ahead of what kids learn currently.

My education is a classical education, my degree doesn't exist at a lot of colleges...... but it reminds me of the schooling our Founding Fathers received. Thomas Jefferson comes to mind, with knowledge in a great many fields. I graduated with a certification to teach: American and World History, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Economics, and Political Science. My dad would say I was a "Jack of all trades - and a master of none." I didn't mention Sex Ed....but I just assumed you all would know that......

With all that said..... let's test your knowledge of the world. If I said, this president of the United States was known for his love of peanuts, what would you say?

Hmm, well I would bet the 50 and over crowd would say Jimmy Carter. We all have heard about the Georgia Peanut farmer that became a Nuclear scientist and then the Governor of Georgia and finally US president. The story the world heard was a poor boy that made good...... LOL, poor is all in how you tell the story.

A more educated person might say, "......now hang on a minute I seem to remember Thomas Jefferson grew peanuts on his plantation and loved eating the homemade peanut butter. Remember, I said Jefferson had a classical education.....and maybe you have to have one as well to know about his peanut butter too. Then again Jefferson grew over 50 kinds of peas.....

The real question is who is jumping up and down screaming, "......wait wait you forgot to mention President Calvin Coolidge. It is very possible Coolidge loved peanuts more than Jimmy Carter, and if you were educated prior to the 1970's you should know steps took to have peanuts at the White House. I won't bore you here, but there have been books written about Coolidge and his love of peanuts.

Do you have to know the US presidents love status with peanuts to be smart? Of course not..... but having general knowledge about the world opens up the universe to you, and helps you to being able to understand what is happening around you.
