Ok, I know that sounds crazy.....and I am leaving out a lot of details that I promise would blow your mind.... maybe we will make that a story for another day. For now just let me briefly explain. Back in the year 2010 I needed some equipment that I just didn't have the money to buy. Someone mentioned to me that the owners of Carter's Pest Control had both died the same week and the business and all it's equipment was up for sale.
If I didn't have the money for equipment...... I sure as hell didn't have money to buy an entire company, but hey what the hell....let's talk. This is where my dear ole dad was working behind the scenes from heaven. During the conversations we discovered that one of the deceased owners grew up over the hill from my dad, and they had known each other in the 1920's.
The weird things just kept coming.... For instance, if you have known me for a while you know I once had a dog named Tyson, that became my dad 3 days after my dad passed away. The people I was negotiating with, just happened to have a litter mate to Tyson.
Without going into great detail, even though another interested buyer had offered full price for the company, they sold it to me for pennies on the dollar, and let me make payments. Holy crap, how and why, they said they were told to do so in a dream.
For legal reasons I needed to change the business name, and because I was able to purchase gatewaypestcontrol.com I chose the name Gateway Pest. Dad was working hard up there in heaven, because about that same time a company in Pittsburg was undergoing some changes, and I was able to purchase their website (gatewaypest.com) To understand the how crazy that was is you have to understand the value of websites. Website prices run from just a few dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Gatewaypestcontrol.com is probably worth a couple thousand, but gatewaypest.com is probably worth $20-30,000..... I managed to buy it for $20.
Which finally gets me to the point of today's story. The value of 4 letter websites is crazy,.... and 4 letter websites are getting more valuable everyday. 20 years ago I purchased EzRag.com which is estimated to be worth $20-100,000 today. Offer me $100,000 and you will be the proud new owner, offer me $20,000 and I will counteroffer..... Fifteen years ago I was offered money from a company named Easy Rag, but their offer was a joke (I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night)
